At IRIS MAREE we don’t work with leather or any other animal-derived materials. Instead, we work with Kayla Fabric® — an in-house developed material designed to replace leather.

Kayla Fabric®

Our main interest is to create beautiful designs while reducing global leather usage by introducing a new, sustainable material. Crafted from ultra-thin recycled nylon threads, Kayla Fabric® is woven in a three-layer structure and finished with innovative coatings to deliver unmatched durability and elegance. Kayla Fabric® does not lose color, is water- and stain-resistant, and is easy to use. Made for every moment and every occasion.

Why did we develop Kayla Fabric®?

  • To offer a fully-fledged alternative to leather that is animal-friendly
  • To offer a PVC-free leather alternative that is better for the environment.
  • To offer a material that is both beautiful and practical. Kayla Fabric® does not lose color, is water- and stain-resistant, and is easy to use. Made for every moment and every occasion.
  • To offer a material that generates zero waste. Leather, animal hide, once belonged to a living creature. As a result, no hide is completely uniform — only 20–30% of the hide is suitable for the production of leather goods. The rest is discarded. Kayla Fabric® is a man-made material that contains no natural imperfections. Unlike leather, it can be used in its entirety for the production of our bags and accessories. No animal suffering, no unnecessary waste — just a modern, beautiful, and responsible material.

The Journey

To develop an impeccable replacement for leather wasn’t always easy. Finding the right balance between sustainability, durability, and a soft, luxurious feel was challenging. But cutting corners was never an option. Every hurdle we took over the past 10 years was met with a deep commitment to creating something better.
